Mr. Tagtmeier is the senior litigation counsel with the Moster Craft Attorneys at Law where he works in the Commercial Litigation section. In his 30-year career, Mr. Tagtmeier has worked on many different complex litigation matters, including employment law, insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, partnership disputes, hospitality, residential and commercial real estate, and commercial and residential construction matters. As a trial lawyer, Mr. Tagtmeier has tried or arbitrated over 70 cases with more than half as the first chair. In his legal career, he has also served as general counsel for American Risk Insurance and for many contractors and subcontractors helping them with their various legal needs. He is licensed by the State Bar of Texas, the Northern and Eastern U.S. District Courts of Texas, and the Western U.S. District of Florida.
Mr. Tagtmeier holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and History from Rice University, where he graduated cum laude. He received his juris doctor from the University of Texas School of Law in 1992 where he was actively involved in the mock trial program, earning the Order of the Barristers for his performance in mock trial tournaments across the country.
In addition to his trial practice, Mr. Tagtmeier is a certified mediator and arbitrator. In his mediation practice, he has mediated over 1800 cases, including matters regarding commercial and residential construction, insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, professional liability (med mal, attorney malpractice), intellectual property, collection matters, lien and bond claims, sexual harassment, FSLA claims, wrongful termination, personal injury, property damage, maritime personal injury and property damage, breach of contract, fraud, libel and slander, DTPA, custody battles and divorces. As an arbitrator, Mr. Tagtmeier has served on over 200 panels over 30 of which have gone to hearing with most as the chairperson. He also volunteers with FINRA, the securities regulatory entity that oversees all broker/customer disputes.
Mr. Tagtmeier is a frequent speaker at CLE events having authored papers on the Residential Construction Liability Act and Texas Lien and Bond Claims. He has also received several awards from his colleagues for his work. He was recognized in Houstonia Magazine as one of Houston’s Top Lawyers in Mediation and Construction Law and in H Texas Magazine as one of Houston’s Top Lawyers in Mediation and Construction Law.
When Mr. Tagtmeier is not helping his clients, he is an active volunteer with the Rodeo Austin and the Austin Dispute Resolution Center. He also loves his Rice Owls and the Houston Astros as baseball is one of his passions. He enjoys living in Austin with his wife where he can hike without traveling long distances and spend time on the water.
