SENIOR IP/PATENT/LITIGATION ATTORNEY (AUSTIN)

MATT BURR

Matt Burr serves as a Senior IP, Patent, and Litigation Attorney for the Firm with a special focus in the area of biotechnology and related issues.  In addition to Intellectual Property, he handles complex litigation for the Firm in both Texas federal and state courts.

He is a graduate of the University of Houston School of Law (1988) and also pursued graduate studies in Molecular Biology and the Baylor School of Medicine.  He received his B.A. in Biology from the University of California San Diego.

Along with Charles Moster who heads the Firm’s Turing Technology Group, Mr. Burr is fascinated with the new developments and applications in the area of Biocomputers and the formulation of technology to support organic systems including Wetware.  Mr. Burr and the Firm are also equipped to obtain patents for clients in multiple bio-technical areas including pharmaceuticals, genetic research/application, and medical devices, among others.

Mr. Burr has been involved in substantive biological/genetic research at many of the top research institutions in the United States and world, including:

  • Research experience in the laboratory of Inder Verma at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies.
  • Research experience in the laboratory of National Academy of Science Member Jack Buchanan at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He Presented the group’s paper at the annual meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology on one of the first discoveries of an oncogene.
  • Co-created the Office of Technology Development at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He also created technology transfer agreements adopted by the University of Texas System.
  • Negotiated the agreements and shepherded approval through the University of Texas Board of Regents for several biotech startups from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Mr. Burr has been a registered patent attorney since 1995 and admitted in the U.S. District Courts of Texas.  Together with the Turning Technology Group, he looks forward to assisting clients on a broad range of IP and patent matters.

Matt is assigned to our Austin office and also handles complex commercial litigation for the Firm.
